Proofreading

What is proofreading? Proofreading is the very last step in the professional editing process. It is the final look at your work and is designed to catch any errors that were missed, or accidentally introduced, during the earlier editing phases.

Your manuscript is ready for proofreading if it’s been through at least two previous professional editing phases.

A proofreader is important because they are the final set of eyes that will read your piece before your audience does. They are the last line of defense against those pesky typos that somehow survived the other rounds of editing!

PROOFREADING:

  • Corrects errors in spelling, grammar, punctuation, abbreviation, font usage, capitalization, and syntax

  • Checks for formatting inconsistencies

  • Checks for adherence to chosen style guide and dictionary (most memoirs use the Chicago Manual of Style and the Merriam-Webster dictionary)

If your manuscript is ready for proofreading, great! Let’s get started!
